keep it simple

HAPPY WEDNESDAY?? Are you surprised!! I suppose it’s time to get back into it. This blog keeps my mood high. The other day, I heard myself say “There are worse things,” more than once in response to someone’s complaint and my own bad behavior. How dismissive and rude! So brat summer is going well for me.

*-.-*

Hope everyone has had a lovely few weeks! As I work up the courage to start digitizing my incredible, perfect, flawless, instant classic ideas, I’ve been enjoying research mode.

Today, I’m going to share with you a little bit of info I found while playing around with the idea of logos.

What are your favorite logos?

The Loewe logo is one of my favorites because it’s hot and slinky and simply executed.

The Fendi F’s are instantly recognizable, like Chanel. I suppose Nike. JUST DO IT.

Puma (the sportswear brand) and Jaguar (the car company) have very similar large cat logos.

Lacoste. The crocodile?? Iconic, can’t believe I didn’t think of it first, goddamn it.

It appears Lacoste was started in the early 1930s by a french Tennis player, Rene Lacoste, who’s nickname was Crocodile (long nickname). He retired from tennis and started the brand right as the World War Two storm was a-brewing in Europe. Really glad the tennis polos with the crocodile embroidery is what stuck!!

The first version of the logo is so much tougher than the second version.

Do you think the brand has lasted so long because he really looked like a crocodile?

Or because he struck gold on the simplicity of that branding, the sheer luck of a good nickname, and the hard work of a well-maintained business. Either way, add Rene Lacoste to the list of people that I envy deeply.

Okay well I hope you enjoyed this brief history of the brand Lacoste today.

xx
